Tomm Roland, percussion

Tomm Roland, holds Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from California State University, Sacramento and a Doctor of Musical Arts from SUNY Stony Brook. His principal teachers have been Ronald Holloway, Daniel Kennedy, and Raymond DesRoches. In addition he also studied South Indian drumming under the auspices of the Fulbright Scholar program with T.H. Subashchandran and N. Ganesh Kumar. Tomm has performed in a variety of musical settings throughout the United States, Europe, Asia, and South America. Tomm has given clinics and masterclasses throughout the U.S. and has been selected to perform/present at several national conferences including The College Music Society, the National Association for Music Education and multiple performances at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention. Some of his recordings include Take Flight with the Omaha Symphony, Rave On: Live at the Drew, Eric Revis Tales of the Stuttering Mime, and ambient composer Kevin Keller’s in abstentia.  He most recently recorded an anthology, a collection of true to the original Beatles songs which he executive produced as well as played drums.

Tomm is a Professor of Music at the University of Nebraska, Omaha where he is the Distance Education Coordinator for the College of Communication, Fine Arts and Media and Assistant Director for the School of Music.  He teaches courses on world music, rock history, and The Beatles. When not being professorial he can be heard hitting things around the Omaha area including performing with Billy McGuigan and Rave On Productions since 2002.  In addition to freelancing regularly with touring Broadway shows and Lincoln’s Symphony Orchestra he currently hits things with various rock bands including tributes to Ozzy Osbourne and Van Halen. Tomm is an artist for Zildjian cymbals and Vic Firth sticks and mallets.
