Brett Hodge, horn
Brett Hodge is a professional horn player and music educator based in Omaha, Nebraska. Since 2016, he has held the position of principal horn with the Omaha Symphony. In addition to his orchestra seat, Brett maintains an active teaching schedule and frequently plays as substitute with some of the country’s most elite orchestras including the Saint Louis Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, and San Francisco Symphony. During the summer, Brett occupies the position of third horn with the Grant Park Orchestra in Chicago, Illinois.
A lifelong lover of classical music, Brett has spent over two decades cultivating a rich and versatile career in the field. In addition to his orchestral positions, he has appeared as a soloist with numerous organizations, including the Omaha Symphony, Omaha Chamber Music Society, and the Kansas City Symphony. As an educator, Brett has appeared as a guest artist and lecturer at many universities around the country. Notable institutions include the University of Iowa, Iowa State University, The University of Kansas, the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Columbus State University, and the University of Missouri- Kansas City.
In 2020, Brett founded Horns of the Heartland, a 501(c)(3) non-profit chamber group that performs works for horn ensemble. Led by conductor Martin Hackleman, Horns of the Heartland features French horn players from the Omaha, Des Moines, Quad Cities, and South Dakota symphony orchestras. Horns of the Heartland is the steward of the Marina Jan Krol Hodge Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Brett holds a bachelor of music degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music and Dance. His primary teachers include Martin Hackleman, Ellen and Doug Campbell, Thomas Bacon, Tod Bowermaster, Thomas Jöstlein, Roger Kaza, Julie Landsman, and John Thomas.
In his free time, Brett enjoys spending time with his daughter Paisley and dog Sadie.
